Job Description:

This is a Part-Time, 0 to 20 hour per week position.

Modifications of facilities or existing hardware are often required to support specific research or flight projects. KBR is seeking a Mechanical Technician to provide technical support in the mechanical assembly, disassembly, (including but not limited to cutting, drilling, machining, routing ABS to proper sizes, obtaining dimensions from as build and finding material equivalents to as built) repair, refurbishment, and testing at NASA Ames Research Center.

In this role, you will support the development and revision of facility documentation and work with NASA counterparts to identify requirements internal and external documentation in accordance with NASA Quality standards and Space Biosciences (Code SC) configuration management and documentation control system to ensure that only the latest versions of facility documentation are being used in the facilities. You will operate and maintain facilities and equipment in accordance with safety standards and make them available when needed to support tests or experiments. You will also perform the monthly Quality, Safety and Calibration inspections for the N240 Prototype Shop and room 117B, including the office room 114 and provide support to the NASA Code SCF Facility Service Manager for acceleration facilities in N221A and the SGE Facility Service Manager for N239A.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Work on modifications and updates to drawings.
Execute written procedures in coordination with a team involving engineering and quality assurance.
Support other technicians and engineers in assembly, disassembly, cleaning, testing, and troubleshooting.
Perform testing and analysis on support equipment and calibration standards.
Support centrifuge testing/modifications/refurbishment.
Provide quality and safety reports (including monthly inspections).

Required Education/Experience:
High School diploma with 7+ years of relevant experience.
Speaking: Verbal communication using the English language.
Written Communication: Produce written work using the English language.
Organization: Prioritize multiple, competing assignments.
Performance Level: Perform effectively in a fast paced, demanding work environment.
Seeing: Must be able to read reports and use computers and other office electronics.
Hearing: Must be able to hear well enough to communicate with co-workers.
Fingering/Grasping/Feeling: Must be able to write, type and use phone system.
Must be able to stand, walk, climb, stoop, kneel, lift, pull and push.
Travel Requirement: Must be willing to travel as necessary to meet business needs.

Required Skills/Training:
A high level of manual dexterity, including the ability to handle and control small parts during critical assembly, disassembly, and cleaning processes is required. A demonstrated ability to perform to high-quality workmanship standards. Ability to read, interpret, and analyze technical drawings, diagrams, and technical publications. Proven track record working in compliance with any applicable Quality Assurance (QA), Safety, Health and Environmental plans, policies, and procedures. Proficiency in troubleshooting techniques. Experience in safe laboratory practices.

The successful candidate must have a solid history of functioning in a team environment, being a self-starter, working independently with limited instruction, and meeting critical demands. This will require the successful candidate to have excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills and to have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail. Standard MS Office software product knowledge (Word, Outlook, Excel, and Power Point) is required.

Desired Education, Experience, Skills or Training:
Some education and training in mechanical systems and engineering is desired. This includes experience in a shop environment, fabricating mechanical parts using standard shop equipment, and/or includes experience with compressed gas systems.
