Job Description:
The GeneLab project is an omics repository enabling open science
for NASA and offers the research community access to spaceflight
data sets. GeneLab is a critical component supporting NASA's
overall objectives to discover and explore deeper into space. NASA
is actively conducting biological research on the ground and in
microgravity aboard the International Space Station; in the
process, many samples are produced that require processing for
omics analysis. The GeneLab Sample Processing Lab is seeking an
experience NGS Research Associate with a background in Molecular
Biology to support our Genomics and Sequencing Core to support
evaluating new methods, processing critical samples, and working
with our scientific community to standardize and publish SOPs.
The incumbent shall:
--- Have experience and in depth understanding of short read Next
Generation Sequencing techniques
--- Conceptualize, plan, and execute R&D experiments to
optimize laboratory procedures
--- Apply scientific knowledge and broad laboratory skills to
execute complex bench experiments
--- Demonstrate familiarity with a wide range of molecular biology
techniques, RNA/DNA isolation and library preparation kits and
methods. Should be able to analyze, compare and select best method
approach for variety of experimental designs and samples.
--- Be able to reproducibly follow established procedures as well
as troubleshoot experiments as necessary
--- Perform RNA, DNA, protein extractions from critical,
irreplaceable tissues, bacterial and mammalian cell samples
--- Perform library preparation, quality control and sequencing in
reliable and reproducible manner
--- Have experience working with lab automation robotics; liquid
handlers, automated RNA/DNA extractors
--- Accurately and consistently record experiment details,
materials, results and conclusions using lab notebook and LIMS
--- Should be able to present findings and convey comprehensive
project status reviews using technical reports and
presentations
--- Interact with and assist other team members as needed to meet
research objectives
--- Review and provide guidance to PI's on inquiries about
sequencing standards and services
--- Write protocols and methods for datasets and scientific
publications
--- Support science communication efforts including lab tours,
conferences, and writing articles
Required Education/Experience (Per Position Level Table):
The incumbent shall have as a minimum BS/BA in molecular biology,
bio-chemistry, bio-engineering or related field, and 1+ years'
experience in a molecular biology lab.
Required Skills/Training:
--- Experience in a Molecular Biology lab
--- Experience in next generation sequencing applications
--- Proficiency in RNA and DNA extractions from various sample
types
--- Proficiency in library preparation (e.g. Illumina, Kapa)
--- Experience utilizing robots to automate laboratory
processes
--- Proficiency in aseptic technique
--- Familiarity with single cell sequencing, metagenomics and
RNAseq applications

applicable):
--- Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and
oral)
--- Strong attention to detail
--- Ability to work independently with minimal guidance while
consistently exercising good judgment. Basic Compensation:
$79,700.00-$96,600.00 This pay range is for the Mountain View,
California area onlyThe offered rate will be based on the selected
candidate's knowledge, skills, abilities and/or experience and in
consideration of internal parity. Additional Compensation: KBR may
offer bonuses, commissions, or other forms of compensation to
certain job titles or levels, per internal policy or contractual
designation. Additional compensation may be in the form of sign on
bonus, relocation benefits, short term incentives, long term
incentives, or discretionary payments for exceptional
