Nuro is looking for a Head of Autonomy, reporting to our VP of Software, who will play a critical role in scaling our world-class Autonomy engineering teams. You will work closely with, and guide, the autonomy engineering org and partner with the Systems Engineering, Product, Autonomy Platform, Robots, and Operations teams to solve complex, real-life problems that will move goods for millions of people. Expect to tackle real-life problems to help advance the future of robotics to improve everyday lives.
About the Work

• People: Be responsible for a multi-hundred-person software organization spanning numerous domains and experience levels. Owns organizational challenges and inspires current and future software leadership to get the most out of their teams.
  
  
  • 
    
  • Prioritization & Communication: Own the Autonomy technical roadmap, tradeoff decisions, and communication to the organization about Autonomy direction, priorities, and short-term/long-term objectives.
    
    
    • 
      
    • Lead and champion Autonomy software engineering: Drive continuous improvement in development processes, tools, and organization. Maximize the benefits of ML and human assistance throughout the autonomy stack. Define and drive up all key autonomy metrics. -
      
      About You
      
      • 
        
      • Must haves:
        
        
        
        

        • 
          
        • Exceptional technical leader in a high-growth environment -
          
        • Strong experience hiring and developing top talent
          
        • Deep technical expertise in at least one subdomain of AV, robotics, ML, and/or AI
          
        • Experience working on safety critical products requiring rigorous testing and validation
          
        • Strong track record of successfully leading and delivering large, complex R&D engineering efforts with high execution risk. -
          
        • Hustle + Hungry - genuine interest in understanding all aspects of the organization. The desire to learn what you do not already know.
          
        • Experience leading healthy engineering organizations of 100+ engineers
          
        • Experience managing large organizations

            • Experience trading off HW vs SW implementation paths.
