Minimum qualifications: + Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience. + 15 years of professional experience in engineering. + Experience as a Technical Lead/Principal Architect for high scale services. + Experience in distributed systems. Preferred qualifications: + MS or PhD in engineering or computer science. + 20 years of professional experience, with 5 years as a Technical Lead/Principal Architect. + Experience in architecting, designing and building large scale distributed systems both from scratch and through complex migrations. + Experience designing and implementing services on Google Cloud Platform. + Demonstrated ability to influence technical stakeholders and to execute projects requiring collaboration across multiple teams + Proven ability to think in a strategic manner to develop innovative platform offerings, and to operate effectively across a complex, matrixed environment We want to make the Google Nest infrastructure the best system on which to build innovative, helpful home products for the world. As a principal thought partner to the Engineering Director for Nest Services, you will lead the technical long term strategy for cloud services across all Nest products. You will work closely with our engineering leadership to realize this strategy, while setting high technical excellence in everything we do. You will be designing and refining the platform that enables engineers to build innovative capabilities that can evolve through market forces, accelerating product iteration velocity and reducing their total cost of ownership. Whether finding new ways to capture and sense the world around us, advancing form factors, or improving interaction methods, the Devices & Services team is making people's lives better through technology. + Define the long term technical vision and road map for all Nest Services, leading a virtual team of Tech Leads from across the organization to turn the technical vision into reality. + Collaborate with cross-functional team members to design the Nest Ambient Computing platform, innovating across multiple horizontal teams in Nest Software. + Develop design principles and set a uniform process for reviewing designs within software teams, defining standards for writing, sharing, and reviewing design documents. Serve as the final approver for all services software architect designs. + Provide domain expertise and engineering insight to guide early designs, accelerate project decision making and maintain close oversight of technical execution and proactively adjust course where necessary. + Work in close partnership with service engineering directors to ensure designs matriculate to production.
