JOB DESCRIPTION - -NASA Data Systems Test and Software Operations Support Engineer

QTS is looking for an early career customer-focused Test Engineer or Business Systems Analyst to take on two significant and visible roles: 1) black-box testing/SQA of NASA IT/data systems (see below), 2) system operations/maintenance and customer technical support for PMT.

Program/Project Management Tool (PMT) is a comprehensive, web-enabled business intelligence application assisting NASA enterprises to monitor, disseminate, and track the progress of NASA Program and Project milestones as well as their line-of-business processes and the corresponding resources, such as budgetary allocations. The tool provides Chief Financial Office (CFO) the ability to develop budget phasing plans and display monthly plan-versus-actuals reports at various Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) levels for NASA centers and programs/projects.

Near Earth Objects (NEO) is a project to develop web-based resources for the planetary defense community to collate and disseminate physical characteristics of Near-Earth Asteroids (NEA) and Meteorites (hence Objects). The Small Spacecraft Systems Virtual Institute (S3VI) is a virtual multi-institutional and multi-disciplinary collaboration institute within the small spacecraft research to advance the field of small spacecraft systems and applied sciences. - The S3VI common web portal will perform data consolidation, integration, and federated search capabilities with designated small satellite and spacecraft domain data products and heterogeneous domain specific data sources. The Flight Opportunities Program (FOP) Flight Opportunities seeks to increase the availability and affordability of space technology flight tests by employing commercial flight services and developmental partnerships. Through Flight Opportunities, NASA Space Technology Mission Directorate (STMD) selects promising technologies from industry, academia and government, and tests them on commercial launch vehicles. -The Flight Opportunities Reporting System (FORS) web-based software will facilitate the management of FOP's objectives. -Additional NASA public site reference: https://www.nasa.gov/directorates/spacetech/flightopportunities/index.html

Responsibilities:

While adhering to NASA's agile lifecycle software development process, perform black-box testing/SQA of NASA IT/data systems, and address the requirements for the PMT software operations and maintenance support.

Black box testing and SQA includes:

  • Contributing to Agile/Scrum software test process.
  • Developing and documenting test cases and perform black box testing of PMT, NEO, S3VI, and FOP missions.
  • PMT Operations & Maintenance support includes:
  • Creating new PMT system instances and reconfiguring existing PMT instances for customers and stakeholders.
  • Providing on-going user support.
  • Providing training and annual, semi-annual, or quarterly support to NASA Agency-wide budget planning process and activities initiated from NASA's HQ Office of the Chief Financial Officer (OCFO) and other Center OCFO customers/stakeholders.
  • Supporting PMT server operations, PMT data integrity checks, and daily data import process.
    REQUIREMENTS - -NASA Data Systems Test and Software Operations Support Engineer

    Education: Bachelor's in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Management Information Systems, IT Systems Management, or related disciplines

    Year(s) of Experience: 2+ years of experience

    Citizenship: Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident

    Qualifications, Skills and Traits:
    -
    • Experience with black box regression testing methodologies, including data quality Verification and Validation (V&V)
    • Strong verbal and written communication toward developing software system operations and maintenance plans, user guides, software test plan documentation and presentations to both non-technical and technical audiences
    • Effective organizational skills to be able to manage multiple concurrent projects and remain responsive to the stakeholders
    • Strong attention to details in maintaining data integrity and identifying potential data problems
    • Must be a motivated team player and can also work independently in a small agile software development team
    • Experience with Microsoft Office productivity tools, such as MS-Word, MS-Excel, and MS-PowerPoint, MS-Teams.
      Desired Skills:
      -
      • Experience with agile software development methodology.
      • Experience with Atlassian collaboration tools, such as Confluence wiki, JIRA ticketing system, BitBucket Git-based repositories, etc.
      • Experience with online video/audio conference tools, such as Microsoft Teams, Cisco WebEx, etc.
