Treatment Location: Santa Cruz, CA (In-Person) Schedule: Full-Time
(Daytime hours; may include occasional weekends as needed) Overview
An established addiction treatment center in Santa Cruz, California
is seeking an Advanced Practice Provider (Physician Assistant or
Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner) to deliver high-quality,
evidence-based care to individuals with substance use disorders and
co-occurring mental health conditions. This is a fully on-site
role. A key part of the position includes conducting intakes and
clinical assessments and supporting patients through stabilization
and ongoing treatment. What You’ll Do Conduct new patient intakes ,
including comprehensive medical and psychiatric histories,
substance use history, and risk assessments. Perform initial and
ongoing assessments , including diagnostic impressions, treatment
planning, and appropriate level-of-care recommendations. Evaluate
and manage medications as clinically appropriate, including support
for withdrawal management and co-occurring psychiatric conditions.
Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team (therapy, nursing, case
management, peer support) to coordinate integrated treatment. Order
and interpret labs and other clinical data relevant to treatment
planning and safety monitoring. Provide patient education on
diagnosis, medications, harm reduction, relapse prevention, and
recovery resources. Document care thoroughly and promptly in the
EHR, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations and program
policies. Support quality and safety initiatives, including
adherence to clinical protocols and evidence-based practices.
Participate in care team meetings and contribute to a culture of
compassionate, trauma-informed care. What We’re Looking For Active,
unrestricted California license as a Physician Assistant or
Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) . Experience in addiction
medicine / substance use disorder treatment strongly preferred.
Ideal candidates also have experience with psychiatry/mental health
, including co-occurring disorders (e.g., depression, anxiety,
PTSD, bipolar disorder). Comfort completing intakes and assessments
with strong clinical judgment and clear, patient-centered
communication. Familiarity with withdrawal management, MAT
principles, and recovery-oriented models of care (experience level
may vary by credential and setting). Strong documentation habits
and ability to work collaboratively in a structured clinical
environment. BLS certification (and other certifications as
required by the facility). Nice to Have Prior work in residential
treatment, detox, PHP/IOP, community behavioral health, or similar
settings. Training in trauma-informed care, motivational
interviewing, and/or harm reduction approaches. Experience working
with justice-involved populations or high-acuity behavioral health
populations. Work Environment In-person clinical role at a Santa
Cruz-based addiction treatment center. Team-based environment with
