OverviewMarin Community Clinics, founded in 1972, is today, a multi-clinic network with a wide array of integrated primary care, dental, behavioral, specialty and referral services. As a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), we provide vital health services to almost 40,000 individuals annually in Marin County. The Clinics regularly receive national awards from the Health Resources and Services Administrations (HRSA). Our Mission is to promote health and wellness through excellent, compassionate care for all.The Safety Director will manage the development, maintenance, training and application of safety and emergency-related policies and procedures and will maintain compliance with The Joint Commission and Cal/OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) regulations, including the development and oversight of the organization's Injury and Illness Prevention Plan (IIPP) and Workplace Violence Prevention Plan (WVPP), in alignment with California SB 553 requirements.The Safety Director is a key advisor to senior leadership and the Board on matters of safety and risk mitigation. The Safety Director will ensure the provision of programs that ensure a safe workplace including safety orientations, skill training, emergency preparedness, workplace violence, proper job instruction, hazardous material disposal procedures, the use of protective equipment, conduct safety inspections and audits, promote safety awareness, and ensure ongoing education to all employees. The Safety Director will create and present reports on safety performance and incidents and implement or adjust safety practices as needed.Responsibilities

  • Directs and supervises the general safety and emergency guidelines and procedures of the organization.
  • Provides guidance on health and safety to ensure the organization meets industry, local, state, and federal guidelines and regulations.
  • Creates an environment of education, mentorship, and empowerment to promote employee engagement in a culture of safety.
  • Plans, implements and conducts preventative care, safety, and regulatory compliance training programs.
  • Conducts safety meetings, audits, and inspections in conjunction with departmental leadership to ensure compliance, evaluate performance, identify corrective action, and implement follow-up assessments.
  • Ensures The Joint Commission (TJC) proper documentation for the EOC (Environment of Care), LS (Life Safety), and EM (Emergency Management) chapters. (when applicable)
  • Collaborate with Compliance leadership on HRSA FTCA risk management initiatives and required reporting.
  • Oversee the ongoing implementation and maintenance of the Injury and Illness Prevention Plan and Workplace Violence Prevention Plan.
  • Ensure compliance with California SB 553 by conducting annual workplace violence risk assessments and updating the Workplace Violence Prevention Plan accordingly.
  • Conduct an annual hazard vulnerability assessment (HVA)/ risk analysis to find the organization's risk for natural (e.g., hurricanes, floods, earthquakes), technological (e.g., nuclear power plant emergencies or hazardous materials spills), human-caused (e.g., active shooter or hostage situations), and other disasters.
  • Update emergency plans and procedures for disasters/risks identified in the HVA.
  • Work with the interdisciplinary team in the creation, development, education, training, and implementation of disaster plans that are in alignment with state and other regulatory agencies.
  • Lead facility-level safety drills, including fire, earthquake, and active shooter scenarios, in compliance with Cal/OSHA and Joint Commission requirements.
  • Implement initiatives to reduce the level of work-related accidents and/or occupational hazards.
  • Investigate accidents to find out their causes; and implement prevention measures.
  • Ensures completion of safety event report investigations and documentation.
  • See that all work is performed according to approved manuals, internal policies, and procedures.
  • Maintain all recordkeeping requirements including training and compliance records and examine trends to reduce future incidents.Additional Responsibilities
    • Attend meetings as required to maintain knowledge of regulatory and compliance requirements.
    • Assist and support the organization's effort to meet standards of High Reliability.
    • Other related duties as assigned.QualificationsEducation and Experience:
      • A Master's degree in relatedfield a plus.
      • Bachelor's degree in safety management or another related field of study preferred.
      • Will consider equivalent experience or a combinationof related education and experience.
      • up to 3-5 years of experience in health-care safety management environment required.
      • Prior work history in Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC) highly desirable.
      • Health and safety certification preferred (e.g. Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Healthcare Safety Professional (CHSP), or similar).
      • Strong knowledge of the Joint Commission Environment of Care Standards.
      • Demonstrated knowledge of California-specific safety regulations, including Cal/OSHA Title 8 and SB 553 requirements.Required Skills and Abilities

        • Must be a good team playerand have excellent interpersonal skills.

        • Computer (PC) literate in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook email, and database software.
        • Efficient time management skills, with the ability to meet deadlines and organizational needs.
        • Ability to establish and maintain positive, professional relationships among a diverse client group.
        • Ability to travel to all local Marin Community Clinics in Marin County.
        • Strong critical thinking ability.Physical Requirements and Working ConditionsThe work environment is characteristic of a medical clinic environment. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; use hands to handle or feel. The employee is also required to stand, walk; and reach with hands and arms.The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. The employee must also possess hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the phone.
