Assistant Energy Manager (Junior Energy Manager)

Job Description Summary
The Assistant Energy Manager (AEM) role will support the BEaT, Building Energy, Analytics, and Technology team. The AEM will be responsible for supporting the engineers on energy programs and projects, assist in achieving energy reduction goals, and mentor engineers where necessary.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES (7-10 with highest % time spent listed first):
Oversee the smart building commissioning program and ensure successful completion on a quarterly basis
Provide technical support for ECM implementation
Develop programs to assist with energy reduction goals
Support infrastructure design and commissioning projects
Work with energy management team to develop ROI calculations, secure budgets and manage projects resulting from programs and projects
Provide technical support to energy engineer(s) with BIN calculations and energy models
Contribute to the implementation and/or ongoing management of fault detection & diagnostics (FDD) application(s)
Serve as a subject matter expert for high performance building design, commissioning, and operations
Reverse engineer existing HVAC systems to solve complex user/equipment comfort concerns in people and critical spaces.
Proposed solutions to improve system management and performance
Management of measurement and verification of energy programs and projects - oversee development of plans and manage performance of M&V activities
Oversee project tracking and reporting, where necessary
Performs other related duties as required or requested

Bachelor's Degree required

Specify preferred major: Mechanical, Electrical, or Architectural Engineering
Certifications, Licenses, or Accreditations preferred

Specify requirements: PE (CA preferred), LEED AP (especially O&M), Energy Manager, M&V Professional

5-7 years of related work experience in experience in building systems (ideally HVAC/mechanical and/or controls) design, commissioning, retro-commissioning, optimization and/or analysis preferred
1-3 years of Management experience

Specialized knowledge / skills:
Strong knowledge of large commercial HVAC systems, how their components work and interact, and how they are automated, controlled, monitored and measured
Ability to use building data to identify performance improvement opportunities down to the root cause, develop specific action plans and/or projects, manage those projects and verify results
Experience, to a level of comfort, with time series data and common tools to work with data, i.e. some combination of spreadsheets (Google Sheets or Excel)
Must demonstrate knowledge of energy analytical tools
Must be diligent with data quality and speed for project deliveries.
Ability to create client-ready slides, reports and visualizations
Requires good communication skills, both verbal and written.
Must possess a high level of accuracy and neatness.
Demonstrated ability to read blueprints (mechanical, electrical, structural, controls drawings, etc.)
Ability to motivate team efforts to accomplish goals with accuracy and speed
Must possess forward thinking and interpersonal skills
Must be motivated to continuously explore innovative technologies and ideas to enhance the energy programs and projects
Experience with deploying, managing, and reporting on technical projects
Experience with B.I. applications (Google Data Studio, Tableau, Power BI), SQL, RStudio, etc.

May involve periods of standing, such as operating at a copier/fax/scanner.
Regularly required to talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to write and type.
Ability to speak clearly so others can understand you.
Ability to read and understand information and ideas presented orally and in writing.
Ability to communicate information and ideas in writing and orally so others will understand.
Regularly required to utilize vision abilities, allowing reading of printed material, graphics, and computer displays.
