Job Description:

About the roleOur mission delivery team is looking for an outstanding individual to own building and maintaining the hardware-in-the-loop testbeds for our satellite avionics. As an integration and test engineer, you will work hands-on with critical hardware to enable the next generation of climate and earth observation spacecraft. You will be responsible for understanding electrical vehicle systems and how they are interconnected. You will build an entire satellite on a table, push it to its limits to find problems, and know the flight spacecraft better than anyone. Expect to learn new skills, work hands-on with flight vehicles, and to solve engineering problems across electrical, mechanical, operational and software domains. This role requires strong engineering and critical thinking skills. You will work closely with small teams to meet critical deadlines, taking flight systems all the way from concept to orbit.Responsibilities

  • Design, Build, maintain, and troubleshoot mission-critical satellite hardware-in-the-loop (HITL) testbeds to support software development and system verification and validation. This is a full satellite that we regression test flight software on.
  • Select and integrate sensors and signal injection systems to allow the 6 Degrees of Freedom physics simulator to interact with the flight-like hardware (simulating attitude and reading back what actuators did in a closed loop fashion)
  • Work with discipline engineers to devise tests (verification and validation) that prove or disprove our assumptions and models.
  • Implement automated 'chaos monkey' type tests against the hardware to understand our limitations
  • 'Fly' the testbed on the ground in parallel to the on-orbit vehicles to keep a 'staging' environment available for engineering before pushing commands to flight.
  • Work with with avionics and software engineers to identify problems and lead investigations into anomalous vehicle behavior
  • Work hands-on and lead activities with flight hardware at build, test and launch sites
  • Interface with engineers and technicians from many disciplines to optimize proposed designs for integration, testing, and manufacturability. We're going to build a lot of these, so we need to improve constantly!
  • Read, interpret, and work from drawings and contribute to documentation
  • Configure computing infrastructure (servers, network switches, etc.) which may include both Windows- and Linux-based systems
  • Building harnessing and troubleshooting bring up of electronics Qualifications
    • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline
    • 2+ years of professional experience in system-level design, integration or testing of electrical hardware systems
    • 1+ years of professional experience managing complex technical projects and developing and tracking schedules Nice-to-have Skills
      • Previous experience delivering a hardware system or subsystem through the engineering lifecycle - from requirements through build and deployment
      • Experience building hardware-in-the-loop testbeds, particularly for aviation or space
      • Experience building "development mules" for automotive testing
      • Experience with make/buy decisions
      • Track record of scrappiness and getting it done
      • Strong electrical systems engineering intuition and critical thinking. Comfort with ambiguity and turning high-level requirements into clear design/test objectives
      • Experience with test automation, particularly using Python
      • Implementation of Continuous integration / continuous deployment systems, especially for hardware
      • Experience writing test plans, procedures, and providing operational support to cross-functional teams
      • Hands-on experience using electrical test equipment (multimeters, oscilloscopes, power supplies, etc.), soldering, building electro-mechanical assemblies, or prototype development
      • Has felt the rush of satisfaction getting the perfect oscilloscope trigger on an elusive signal
      • Experience with designing and/or building electrical harnesses and connectors
      • Creative, passionate problem solver that thrives in fast-paced, autonomously-driven, and demanding design and integration campaigns
      • Strong sense of accountability, integrity, and team focus with extensive multi-tasking and organizational experience About Muon SpaceMuon Space is working at the forefront of satellites, advanced sensors, business intelligence, and climate science to allow humanity to close the loop on climate change.
