EMD Electronics is a recognized materials supplier, with multiple
products being currently used in groundbreaking Augmented and
Virtual Reality Devices. In your role as Optical Scientist, you
will join our AR/VR Laboratory team to help us deepen our
understanding on this technology. This is an impactful position
allowing you to shape our venture from day one. You will innovate
and define our next generation materials driven by market and
technological needs, while operating at the interface of external
partners and our internal teams.
You will be based at our Silicon Valley critical initiative in San
Jose to develop new materials to impact next generation AR/VR
- Help building our capabilities and lead the optical
characterization of AR/VR components.
- Act as inspiring leader in the optical simulation of AR/VR
components, helping us to understand critical metrics and how our
materials can impact the advancement of this technology.
- Collaborate with other teams across the globe to coordinate our
R&D projects in AR/VR component related materials
- Participate in partnerships with component and product
developers to help introducing EMD Electronics products in new
Who you are:
- Ms in Physics, Optics or related field (PhD
- Some industry experience in AR/VR component design and
- Extensive experience optically characterizing AR/VR waveguides,
gratings and displays, among other components. Deep understanding
of the critical metrics, key to push this technology
- Extensive experience modeling the optical response of AR/VR
components by using RCWA, FDTD, ray-tracing, and related
formalisms. Experience with both commercial packages (VirtualLab,
Zemax, LightTools, Code V, Lumerical, etc.) and self-written code
in relevant languages (Python, Matlab, etc.)
- Ability to optimize existing products in terms of performance,
manufacturability, and cost.
- Excellent communication skills.
- A curious mind willing to make a broad impact to an emerging
technology such as AR/VR.
- Willingness to push the boundaries of current approaches and to
innovate in the field of materials and applications.
