Our goal is to create a single AI training and inference chip that will outperform the world's largest supercomputer.--Backed by Bill Gates, Luke Nosek, Ali Patorvi, Dara Khosrowshahi, and other reputable Silicon Valley investors.As a photonic design engineer, you will be working on the full product flow of Luminous Computing's silicon photonic integrated circuits (PICs). We are looking for a well-rounded candidate with a variety of skills and experiences in the PIC life cycle from simulation and design to test and measurement. As a member of the photonics team, you will be working closely not only with your peers, but with the digital, mixed-signal, and packaging teams to make sure that the fundamental advantages of photonics are carried through to the final product. We are seeking a candidate who is motivated, independent, and willing to tackle new tasks and challenges as needed in a start-up environment.Responsibilities:* Design and simulate both active/passive components from scratch.* Develop a deep fundamental physics understanding of the devices that you design,* including thermal, electrical/RF, and optical characteristics.* Work with foundry PDKs and be able to design devices using their process flows.* Layout silicon photonic circuits starting from polygons to full circuits.* Perform RF/optical tests, as required, in the lab for your devices.* Write and contribute to photonic design, simulation, and test automation codebases.* Work closely with other teams to make sure that external system requirements are* translated down to the PIC and component level.Required Qualifications and Skills:* Ph.D. in electrical engineering, optics, physics, or another relevant field preferred but not* required.* 3+ years direct industry experience in PIC design or test. Experience with silicon* photonics is strongly preferred, but not required.* Experience using photonic simulation software such as Lumerical MODE and FDTD, or* equivalent.* Experience taping out in silicon photonics foundries.* Hands-on experience performing PIC characterization, and understanding/using the* associated test and measurement equipment.* Ability to write scripts in Python and/or C++.* Good communication skills and willingness to work with others.Luminous Computing provides equal employment opportunities (EEO) to all employees and applicants for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, or genetics.
