Job Summary
Part Time Hourly 0-18 hrs per week as needed
Requirements / Qualifications
Must have a valid California Teaching Credential that authorizes
instruction in subjects for which you are hired and assigned.
Certification to teach English Language Learners and experience
teaching English to adults or educational background specific to
teaching English as a Second Language. Experience teaching in an
online environment is necessary.

CLASS TITLE: ADULT SCHOOL TEACHER
Under the general supervision of a principal or designee, the
teacher is responsible for the direct instruction of
students (their primary duty) assigned to them, as well as planning
instruction and assisting students with setting
personal goals; implementing curriculum, clearly and timely
communicating achievements and areas for
improvement to students, (parents, if a minor); teaching effective
study habits; monitoring and assessing
academic progress; working with students, staff, and community
partners to help students achieve their goals
and receive appropriate services.
In addition, the teacher sets an example for critical thinking,
self-motivation, self-reliance and productivity
while modeling competence, honesty, personal responsibility and
accountability. The teacher creates a learning
environment that guides and encourages students to develop and
fulfill their academic potential and prepares
them for transitioning into postsecondary education, job skills
training, or the world of work.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
* Develop and implement a variety of best practice teaching
methodologies based on student assessment, data
analysis, reflection, observation, implementation, and
evaluation
* Guide students in identifying educational and postsecondary and
vocational goals
* Plan, develop and implement activities and curriculum based on
Board adopted curriculum standards or state
model standards to help students realize their individual
potential
* Assess students regularly using a variety of appropriate methods
and use data to differentiate instruction,
monitor, and evaluate student progress
* Communicate regularly with students, staff, and parents, (if a
minor) regarding academic progress of the students
* Assess students using best practices that provide meaningful
feedback to student and parent, (if a minor)
* Establish and maintain a positive classroom learning environment
so that students are collaborative and self-
directed learners
* Understand and apply current research-based strategies for
classroom instruction, including but not limited to
curriculum alignment, benchmark assessments, and California
Standards for the Teaching Profession.
* Engage in meaningful professional development
* Participate regularly in department meetings and committees
* Identify students needing additional resources/support and
effectively communicate that need to other staff
members, parents (if a minor), and collaborating agencies as
appropriate
* Maintain records as required by state and local guidelines,
policies, practices and laws
* Maintain safety of all students at all times

* A wide-range of effective teaching strategies and student
assessment tools to ensure student learning and student
goal achievement.

applications relative to instruction, assessment and

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
* Valid California Teaching Credential that authorizes instruction
in subjects for which you are hired and assigned.
Certification to teach English language learners as appropriate.
High school experience preferred for those
assigned to comprehensive high schools and Adult Ed programs
serving high school students.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:
* School environment; subject to frequent interruptions
* Ability to lift boxes of 15 to 20 pounds in weight
* Mental ability to teach the skills; skills and knowledge required
to interpret and implement policies, rules and
regulations, and make determinations relative to the effective
performance of the essential responsibilities of the
position
* Ability to sit, stand and/or walk for extended periods of time to
monitor student progress
* Ability to see and read printed matter with or without vision
aids
* Ability to hear and understand speech at normal room levels, and
to hear and understand speech on the telephone
* Manual dexterity to carry out the functions of the above
essential responsibilities.
* Ability to speak in audible tones so that others may understand
clearly
* Ability to bend, reach and walk
* Ability to comprehend visual and auditory input given by
others
* Short term and long term memory ability is required in all
tasks

* Criminal Justice fingerprint clearance
* Evidence of TB clearance
